Angie Mancilla

Spring 2011

6/7/2011

I am nominating: Angie Mancilla

Years of Service at Cal Poly: 12

Department: Office of the AVP for Student Services

Position: Administrative Assistant

Why are you nominating this person?  Why do you think he/she deserves the award?: In the year that Angie has served as the Admin. Assistant for the Office of the AVP for Student Services, she has fulfilled her responsibilities with grace, professionalism and a strong work ethic.  She has hit the ground running and constantly seeks ways to improve the efficiency, output and quality of service provided by our office.

Please select 3 of the 6 Division of Student Affairs values for which your nominee best exemplifies: Student-Centered Philosophy, Integrity, Interconnectedness

Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #1: Integrity: By its nature, the office of the AVP handles a great deal of confidential and sensitive information relating to student records and personnel actions.  Angie has proven herself to be trustworthy, respectful, and completely professional in these matters.

Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #2: Interconnectedness: Angie routinely makes herself available to assist other departments (within our cluster and across the division) to assist when they are short of staff.  She has covered offices so staffs could participate in training programs and retreats; coordinated the payroll submission for Orientation services when they were short staffed; Provides training and guidance to other administrative staff in our cluster; and serves on multiple committees, councils and project teams across campus.

Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #3: Student Centered: A mom at heart, Angie is always looking out for the best interest of our students.  Whether that means providing kitchen supplies for our student worker as she moved into her first apartment, or tracking me down across campus to see if I could make time for a student who came to our office unannounced--but in need, helping students get the support and guidance they need is Angie's first priority.

In what way(s) does this person enhance or contribute to the Cal Poly Pomona campus community?: Angie Mancilla contributes to the campus community by actively engaging in and supporting campus programs and events.  She is a member of staff council, provides a visible presence at many of the campus programs sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers, and serves as an "unofficial" advisor and outreach counselor to a number of students at her teenage son's high school! Angie has been an invaluable asset to me and she is most deserving of this modest recognition.
