Please select 3 of the 6 Division of Student Affairs values for which your best exemplifies:
Student-Centered Philosophy, Quality, Richness of Diversity
Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #1: Student-Centered Philosophy
Christy exemplifies a student-centered philosophy in all that she does. Christy empowers her students to be positive and community-minded individuals through her actions, mentorship, and by being a great resource. A recent example of her commitment to student success occurred when we were going over some feedback forms that her Resident Advisors had filled out about her. Overwhelmingly, the feedback was positive, with quotes from the students including “Christy made me want to perform even better in my RA role!” and “The residents appreciate Christy’s positive attitude and friendly personality”. There were also a few areas of improvement that her staff asked her to address in order to make their jobs easier. Her immediate response was “I want to work on those things because it is important to them.” That’s Christy! She’s very giving of herself to meet the needs of others and is always meeting students where they are at in order to help them grow.
Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #2: Quality
Quality is Christy’s middle name and you can depend on her for a job well done anytime she is working on a project. She is engaged in professional networks and attends conferences to develop her skill sets whenever possible. She always brings back information from the conferences to better help our department learn and grow as well. She thinks critically about the work that she does and because she consistently exceeds expectations, she is seen as a “go to” person when a high profile project needs completion. She has spent a tremendous amount of time this year helping our newest staff members get adjusted and learn the intricacies that the Residence Life Coordinator position entails. She has also taken on the extra responsibility of primary oversight of the Residence Life Graduate Student Intern this summer. Through Christy’s leadership, this student is getting top-quality exposure to university life.
Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #3: Richness of Diversity
Celebrating a richness of diversity is at the core of Christy’s professional values. She was a returning committee member for the Tunnel of Oppression this year, providing guidance and context for a powerful diversity program on campus. As a constant learner, she has attended the Cross Cultural Retreat on campus and recently attended the Black Male Student Success in College Conference, the Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics Conference and the Asian American and Pacific Islander Summit. She is also not afraid to ask critical questions that have the potential to make positive change on this campus.
