Why are you nominating this person?  Why do you think he/she deserves the award?

Dr. Okiyama created a warm, respectful atmosphere where trainees can fully engage in the training process and explore their professional development.  Generations of doctorate interns have become successful psychologists in the community because of Dr. Okiyama's support and inspiration.

Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #1: INTEGRITY

Dr. Okiyama models integrity in his daily work and gently encourages his interns to conduct honest self-examination on their growth edges.

Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #2: PASSION

Since Dr. Okiyama returned to CAPS in Dec. 2005, he has rebuilt the training program from scratch because of his passion and strong belief in developing the next generation of competent clinicians.

Please share how your nominee exemplifies value #3: QUALITY

Because of his hard work, CAPS now has an accredited pre-doctoral training program that is nationally-known and highly sought by very qualified candidates who can provide excellent counseling services to the Cal Poly Pomona students.  Dr. Okiyama is responsible for CAPS' internship program becoming accredited by the CA Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC). 

In what way(s) does this person enhance or contribute to the Cal Poly Pomona campus community? 

By reinstating and expanding CAPS to an accredited internship training program, Dr. Okiyama has enhanced CAPS' services by increasing the availability and quality of the mental health support to the CPP community and our students.
