Why are you nominating this person? Why do you think he/she deserves the award?
Ty has served in a Lead position for almost ten years now. During his first year with Cal Poly, he was awarded the Rookie of the Year, and he has not stopped since. He has a passion for providing the best for the students, and their needs are number one. He is very strategic in his thinking and employs an incredible work ethic. His colleagues appreciate his drive and ambitious nature.
In what way(s) does this person enhance or contribute to the Cal Poly Pomona campus community?
Ty takes the initiative and encourages his staff to provide the best services to the students. He empowers his staff and lets them take the lead on many projects that assist in student training and educational programs. He works with the National College Health Association to gather data on our students to formulate specific programming for them. He keeps abreast of trends and utilizes current research to develop relevant services to provide to the students. He is involved in many facets of the campus and works with students, staff and management to accomplish his goals. . He displays a can do attitude. He assisted in the implementation of the Tri City and Cal MHSA grants and most recently with the Healthy Campus Initiative. He has also submitted a recommendation for a Health Literacy program.

As the Lead for the Wellness Center, Ty approaches his day with the student’s best interest in mind. He provides training for his staff so they in turn can provide the best for the students. He has established innovative programs to promote students healthy choices and well- being. His number one concern is for the student, with education always being a priority. He engages with the students and will go out of his way to ensure they are making decisions based upon factual and relevant information. He was recently heard asking a student if his insurance would cover something he was going to purchase at the health center, so he wouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for something he was covered for. He will lend a hand and often stays late to provide assistance or prepare for programs. His enthusiasm, energy and passion for his job is most evident.

He consistently provides opportunities for his staff and student assistants to engage with the campus community. The Programs that the Wellness Center provide are numerous. He chairs the Alcohol & Other Drugs Committee, is trained in BASICS, Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention of College Students, plays a role in the Mental Health First Aid training and is a member of the BACCHUS (Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students) network group . Not only does he counsel with students, but he promotes the other staff in the clinic and encourages students to utilize all the services. He is constantly updating materials to ensure the students have the most accurate information available to them. He also coordinates no cost HIV testing with East Valley Health Center.
