Keep up-to-date and informed about employment opportunities in a variety of areas, including on campus. Many of our learn-by-doing majors hire students to assist technicians in laboratories, faculty members with teaching and/or research activities, and department staff with department office business. Students can inquire in their major's departmental office to see if their program hires student assistants and what types they hire.

Research Lead and Organic Nutrition Specialist, North Shore Living, Coachella Valley
North Shore Living, a culinary herb grower in the Coachella Valley, is looking to hire a research scientist with agriculture and/or horticulture experience to serve as a research lead and organic nutrition specialist working with culinary herbs in an indoor growing environment.
The research lead role is a project-based role focused on facilitating good design of experiments and execution of experiments across a wide array of crop management disciplines. We have extensive research efforts in supplemental lighting testing, as well as shelf-life enhancement, unique irrigation strategies, and much more.

Waypoint Analytical, Anaheim, Calif.
An established Southern California horticultural consulting firm, Waypoint Analytical is seeking a full-time consultant. Waypoint Analytical supports the horticultural/agricultural industry with a wide range of soil and plant testing and diagnostic services coupled with practical and environmentally sustainable solutions. The consultant will provide technical assistance in the broad areas of soils and plant health to landscape architects, contractors, superintendents, growers, horticultural suppliers, and homeowners. Major responsibilities include recommending and reviewing soil/water/tissue/compost tests and preparing written reports customized for each client.
Applicants must have excellent written, and oral communication skills. They also should have a strong background in soil science and inorganic chemistry and familiarity with common turf culture and ornamental horticulture. A bachelor’s degree or higher in soil science, turf science/management, ornamental horticulture or agronomy is preferred.

Highland Garden Center, Upland, Calif.
Highland Garden Center is looking for candidates to work part or full time with watering, weeding, planting, pruning, general cleaning, customer service, and general nursery upkeep as needed. Other job duties may include driving a forklift and skid steer. Must be able to lift 50 pounds safely and throughout the day. The job will require working outdoors in different weather conditions and on some or all weekends. Many administrative offices on campus also hire students in a variety of capacities. Students have succeeded in balancing work on campus with their classes and found academic success. All these positions are advertised through the Career Center but can only be seen by current students.
Students can check the link below to Handshake, the Cal Poly Pomona Career Center's new posting board. It includes both external and on-campus job opportunities and internships. Alumni will have access to Handshake for up to one year after graduating.
