An agricultural science student participated last month in a national conference on leadership development.

Heaven Toussaint, a third-year student, traveled to the Agriculture Future of America Leaders Conference that was held Nov. 2 to 5 in Kansas City, Mo.

The conference is intended to bridge the gaps between academic, leadership and work experience, provide networking opportunities, and increase awareness of career opportunities in food and agriculture. It drew more than 700 students from colleges and universities nationwide.

“The conference was really productive and insightful way to learn about the agriculture industry,” Toussaint said. “Not only did I get to meet with ag companies – and executives – from companies such as Land O’ Lakes and Monsanto, the conference also offered leadership learning and other important life skills.”

Toussaint also participated in the AFA Opportunity Fair, which gives human resource representatives a chance to communicate with and mentor students about career opportunities within the industry. Students also can find out about internships, graduate studies, and international travel to help grow their portfolio of experiences.
