An animal and veterinary sciences professor and a Huntley College of Agriculture advisor were recognized as Outstanding Partner Awards for their efforts working with students living in residence halls.

Assistant Professor Cord Brundage and advisor Nami Mendenhall both participate in the College Themed Communities, a University Housing Service program designed to connect the academic experience with residence life.

In the program, Huntley College of Agriculture students who live in Cedritos Hall receive educational programming, academic support, and interact with faculty and staff outside of class. It is based on the living-learning community model, which increases student retention and engagement rates.

“Dr. Cord has been incredibly helpful and involved with the CTC agriculture floor, especially this quarter,” one person wrote in nominating Brundage. “He has helped brainstorm ideas as well as provide resources through the college.”

“He is also extremely interested in the faculty in residence program that will be coming to fruition in the next year or two,” another said.

“Nami has been an involved and engaged member of the CTC program since the beginning of the academic year,” another person said in nominating Mendenhall. “She made the time to be present in CTC meetings, has been supportive in terms of resident programming by attending and helping lead parts of programming, and she is always willing to lend support whenever a member of the Cedritos Community has needed it!”

Each college at Cal Poly Pomona has students participating in the themed communities program.
