Huntley College of Agriculture Celebrates Commencement

A graduate celebrates after receiving her diploma.

Family and friends were on hand June 9 as the Huntley College of Agriculture celebrated Commencement.

The college's Class of 2017 included 440 students across five departments.

Don B. Huntley, an alumnus ('60, animal husbandry) and long-time supporter, participated in the ceremonies, which were the first since the college was named after him. Huntley has pledged his 475-acre pistachio farm in the Central Valley to the college.

Professor Martin Sancho-Madriz, who chaired the Department of Human Nutrition & Food Science until this spring, served as the mace bearer. He left the department to become associate dean of the College of Environmental Design.

It was also Mary Holz-Clause's final Commencement as dean of the college; she resigned to become chancellor of the University of Minnesota at Crookston.

The college also honored the following individuals:

  • Ellen Tang, recipient of the Julian A. McPhee Award
  • Brendan Garner, Undergraduate Student Leader of the Year
  • Andy Reynaga, Graduate Student Leader of the Year
  • Assistant Professor Gabriel Davidov-Pardo, Teacher of the Year
  • Professor Bonny Burns-Whitmore, Advisor of the Year
  • Frances Loya, Staff of the Year.

The ceremony was held in the University Quad.
