Have a green thumb but can't go out shopping for plants?
The Cal Poly Pomona Nursery is now selling plants online and shipping them to customers within California.
Customers can buy a variety of plants from dragon fruit and coffee to house plants and ornamentals at https://calpolypomonanursery.com. The students then package the order in specialized shipping containers and ship them via U.S. priority mail service.
Although the nursery does not accept returns, it does offer plant insurance to help cover any problems customers might encounter in the first five days after purchase: customers can get a refund or store credit.
The online sales component is an extension and example of the university’s “learn by doing” philosophy. Cal Poly Pomona students already get hands-on experience growing and propagating the plants in the nursery’s greenhouses. The online sales portal gives students real-world experience in the evolving business of internet commerce.
Proceeds from the sales fund student wages and provide the students with valuable work experience.
