AMM Student Wins Prestigious Scholarship

Amanda Borja

An apparel merchandising and management student won a prestigious $5,000 scholarship after participating in a case study competition.

Amanda Borja, a third-year student from Montebello, was awarded the scholarship from the nonprofit YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund.

The competition called for developing international expansion plans for a company and choosing a country as a new market. Borja chose to develop a case study for expanding into Italy. She researched the target market and family values to obtain the best perspective on lifestyles and chose garment designs and colors.

Borja, whose emphasis is in apparel production, hopes to work in product development and become a creative director for a company or start her own business.

The YMA Scholarship Fund will honor Borja at its annual gala on Jan. 10 in New York.

Last year, the Department of Apparel Merchandising & Management had four students who were selected for the $5,000 scholarships.

Founded in 1937, the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund is the largest and oldest scholarship organization in the fashion industry, seeking the best and brightest students from around the world to lead the industry into the future.
