Huntley College Celebrates Commencement

Hundreds of family members and friends turned out May 18 for the Huntley College of Agriculture’s commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2019.

More than 450 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the ceremonies, which were held on the University Quad.

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science had 161 undergraduate students participate, while The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences had 114 students.

Apparel Merchandising and Management had 86 students, and Agribusiness and Food Industry Management/Agricultural Science had 56 students. Plant Science had 39 students.

Ten graduate students received their master’s degrees in agriculture.

In addition, the college presented the Julian A. McPhee Outstanding Student Scholar Award to food science and technology student Sarah Caballero as the valedictorian for the undergraduate class.

The college also recognized the following honorees:

  • Gabriel Davidov-Pardo, assistant professor of nutrition and food science, as the Mack H. Kennington Advisor of the Year.
  • Ben Lehan, plant science lecturer, as the Teacher of the Year.
  • Jenifer Cazares, administrative support coordinator for the Department of Agribusiness and Food Industry Management/Agricultural Science, as Staff of the Year.
  • Mariana Garcia Rocha, a food science and technology student, as the John E. Andrews Student Leadership Award recipient for the undergraduate student leader of the year.
  • Heidi Holmquist, a master’s student in the plant science option, as the John E. Andrews Student Leadership Award recipient for the graduate student leader of the year.
