If you’re looking for something to do the weekend of March 2 and 3, the Huntley College of Agriculture at Cal Poly Pomona has a lot to offer. The college is holding a cavalcade of events ranging from a plant sale and horse show to an open house, petting farm and food tasting event.

The weekend will kick off with the college’s annual PolyView Open House at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 2. The event is held for prospective students who interested in coming to see what the college has to offer, but it is also open to the public. Visitors can see classrooms and labs, meet faculty and students, learn about academic programs, tour the campus and residence halls, and witness special demonstrations.

Meanwhile, the AGRIscapes Center will have a number of activities going on that weekend, starting with its 2nd Annual Springtime Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine.

The sale will feature premium plants for 50 percent off what they would normally retail for. The plants are donated from a garden plant breeders’ industry showcase that AGRIscapes is hosting. They are display plants and are the best that growers have to offer.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store will hold its annual “Taste of the Farm Store” event. Visitors can enjoy free samples of student-grown produce, fresh-squeezed orange juice, chips and salsa, crackers and dips, cheeses and jams, and sparking drinks and juices at the Farm Store.

Visitors also can meet and feed the goats and sheep from the Cal Poly Pomona Petting Farm, which will be on hand for the day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Admission is $4 per person, and food cups are $2 each.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, weather permitting, the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center will hold its monthly horse show. Breakfast cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg started Sunday exhibitions of his beloved Arabian horses in Pomona in 1926. Continuing this tradition, Cal Poly Pomona students present the university’s Arabian horses today in an entertaining and educational show, including the crowd favorite trick horse. The show lasts about 45 minutes, and guests are invited to tour the barns after the show.

Shows are held in an outdoor arena, so rain any time the week before may affect scheduling. Please check the horse center’s website or Facebook page for weather-related updates.
