April 15, 2020 Update: The Huntley College of Agriculture has received far more applications for assistance than it has funds. Therefore, the college is suspending acceptance of new applications for financial assistance until additional donor funds are raised. Students can apply for assistance through the Bronco Cares Emergency Program. Apply here: Bronco Cares Emergency Grant Application Form.

Students in the Huntley College of Agriculture who are in dire need of emergency financial assistance can apply for help from the college.

A donor has contributed some funds to the college to help students who may be facing financial difficulties during the Coronavirus crisis. These funds are being used to start the Emergency Assistance Program fund.

“We’re grateful for the generosity of this donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, for wanting to help our students especially during this difficult time, when some students may need help with basic needs,” Interim Dean Lisa Kessler said.

“Our students’ ability to complete their education often rests on their income from their jobs while in school,” the donor said. “They are affected as much as anyone with job loss and unemployment may not provide enough help to stay in school. Their future is always in our hands.”

Students can apply for a one-time stipend of up to $500. To qualify, they must be enrolled in a major within the college during the current academic year and able to demonstrate an urgent financial need with documentation.

A small committee will review the application. All information will remain strictly confidential.

The college’s program is separate from the university’s Bronco Care Basic Needs Program, which also offers grants to students.

The college hopes to attract other donors to continue the Emergency Assistance Program fund beyond the Coronavirus crisis and be able to provide assistance to students facing unforeseen crises, such as housing displacement, lost job, an accident or medical emergency, Kessler said.

If anyone would like to contribute to the emergency assistance program, please donate online via the Dean’s Excellence Fund or by mail at P.O. Box 3121, Pomona, CA 91769.

If you have any questions about the fund, please contact Melissa Watkins, Cal Poly Pomona’s executive director for major gifts.
