Four College of Agriculture students attended a national conference held by the nonprofit Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS).

Fabiola Perez, Michelle Alarcon, Eric Lopez and Daniel Munoz traveled to Jacksonville, Fla., for the March 30-April 2 event.

The conference including workshops on applying and interviewing for jobs, networking opportunities, contests on research projects and in public speaking and giving business pitches.

“I found the career fair most beneficial, because employers are actively seeking, and hiring, MANRRS students. MANRRS students are sought after,” says Alarcon, an agricultural business management student.

The conference gave students a greater perspective on U.S. agriculture’s scope and scale, Perez says.

“The most important thing I learned is that you make your own opportunities, and sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone to make new opportunities happen,” she adds

The students shared their experiences with the College of Agriculture community at a May 5 forum.
