ARABIAN HORSE CENTER: Surprise Donation to Send Students to Horse Clinic

The W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center received an unexpected donation of $3,500 earlier this year that it will use to provide two Cal Poly Pomona students the opportunity to attend an Arabian horse clinic.

The Joseph Dodd Trust gave the money to the Arabian Horse Center without any restrictions on its use.

In an effort to expose its students to as many educational opportunities as possible, the Arabian Horse Center decided to use the money to sponsor two students to attend the 2016 Hands-On Clinic at Varian Arabians in Arroyo Grande, April 23 to 24.

Interested students were asked to write an essay expressing why they want to attend the clinic, and how they can use what they learn to give back to the Arabian Horse Center and the Cal Poly Pomona community.

The horse center staff judged the submissions based on originality, perspective, style and grammar.  They selected Amy Stubblefield and Devynn Volding to participate in the clinic. Runner-up Maddi Ogburn will audit the clinic. Equine Operations Program Manager John Lambert will escort the students, along with the horses, CP Lyman Legacy and Alada Sprite VS, to the event.

“We are very thankful for our donors who support the horse center and students, and also Sheila Varian and Varian Arabians for helping to make this possible,” says Arabian Horse Center Director Jéanne Brooks Abernathy. “We know Amy, Devynn, Maddi, and John will have a very productive and educational weekend with these industry experts.”
