Self-Care presented by Andrea M. Handy and Yesenia Colmenero

Self-care is any intentional activity an individual practices to focus on their own needs as it relates to health and well-being. It can be relaxing, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, or physical. Self-care helps you to be mindful of your personal needs, which in turn allows you to better support the people you care about. During this session you will practice various self-care activities led by professionals, to promote overall wellness. At the end of this session, our goal is to leave you feeling rejuvenated and encouraged to establish a self-care routine in your daily lives.

We have invited CPP self-care professionals to help guide you through two of the activities.

Dr. Alane Daugherty CPP Lecturer in Kinesiology and Health Promotion, Co-director of the Mind and Heart Research Lab, a regular contributor to Psychology Today, and author of Unstressed: How Somatic Awareness Can Transform Your Body's Stress Response and Build Emotional Resilience. New Harbinger, Oakland, Ca. 2019.

Shelly Webb is a group fitness instructor for the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC). Shelly has taught mindful movement, such as yoga and Pilates, to the Cal Poly Pomona community for the past decade. She is also a meditation teacher and co-creator of Mindful Broncos, a collaborative mindfulness project between the BRIC and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). She is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona and currently a PhD student at Claremont Graduate University.
