Cal-Bridge
A CSU-UC STEM Bridge Program

The mission of Cal-Bridge is to create opportunities for traditionally underrepresented groups to participate and advance in physics, astronomy, computer science, and computer engineering and to increase their numbers in PhD programs in those fields. We aim to accomplish this by increasing the number of California State University (CSU) students completing their bachelor's degree and successfully entering a PhD program, targeting the University of California (UC). Applicants are recruited from 16 CSUs and over 30 California Community Colleges (CCCs). Applicants are evaluated for admission to the program based on their academic ability or potential, motivation to attend graduate school, and financial need. Students admitted to the program become “Cal-Bridge Scholars”.

The Cal-Bridge program fulfills the promise of the California Master Plan for Education by engaging all three levels of the California higher education system to promote California students moving through the entire system and thereby diversifying the California tech work force.
