Cal-Bridge creates opportunities for traditionally underrepresented groups to participate and advance in STEM fields including physics, astronomy, computer science, and computer engineering, to increase their numbers in PhD programs targeting our UC and other partner institutions.

Nearly half of Cal-Bridge scholars identify as women, whereas only 20% of PhD earners in Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science or Engineering are women. Similarly, more than 60% of our scholars identify as Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and/or Native American, while only 6% of Physics & Astronomy and ~10% of Computer Science & Engineering PhDs identify with those groups. Our scholars come from CSU campuses across California and enroll in PhD programs across the country.
