We juggle many roles at once: student-scholar, family member, friend, and more. In addition to our backpacks and books, we carry stories, experiences, and complexities that impact the ways we navigate pressures from within and outside of school. It’s important to check in with ourselves – what do we carry with us into each situation? Join us in creating affirmation stones and discussing how we lighten the load.

Everyone has experienced stress and challenging life circumstances. This workshop will help you understand how exposure to chronic stress impacts the brain, learning, and overall health. You will be offered practical strategies to cope with stressful situations and increase emotional regulation. This workshop will identify six areas of self-care you can nurture to bounce back.

Storytelling & Paper Mache Doll Making Workshop

Located in Bldg. 97-120

 

In a world where we have to juggle a multitude of responsibilities and expectations, it is more important than ever therefore to take a step back from it all. Join César E Chávez Center for Higher Education and Womxn’s Resource Center, as we learn how to make paper mache dolls with Romona Garcia. The workshop will cover the history of the paper-mache dolls as a traditional and indigenous form of art from Mexico. Participants will learn how these dolls are used in rituals by the indigenous people from the areas in which these dolls are made and of their use in therapy and in working with them to heal trauma. Romona is an artist that bridges together traditional art-making with practices of art therapy.

National Depression Screening Day & Mental Health Fair

Located in BSC URSA Major

 

Caring for your mental health is just as important as caring for your physical health. That’s why CAPS will be offering a free depression screening where you will get to go your results with a CAPS counselor. Free food will be provided to anyone who completes a screening!

Right next door will be a Mental Health Fair where you can take part in fun hands-on wellness activities.

The African American Student Center will facilitate dialogue on mental health in the Black community to raise awareness and dispel myths. Also, the African American Student Center will provide innovative strategies to moves attendees toward wellness.
