Behavioral Research Lab Sends Two Students to CSU Research Competition

The bid to represent Cal Poly Pomona at a CSU-wide research competition fell just short for two Marketing Management students.

Jane Kim and Maverick Siragusa of the College of Business Administration’s Consumer Insights Lab were selected to present their work to judges during the seventh annual Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference. The winner moved on to become CPP’s representative in the 23-campus California State University Student Research Competition.

With Behavioral Business Research Lab (BBRL) advisor Jae Min Jung watching on, Kim and Siragusa delivered a presentation of the research that they have been doing since summer of 2018 in, “Why Healthcare Providers Should Consider Reforming Their Practice: From the Patient’s Perspective.”

A trip to the CSU shootout planned for April 26-27 at CSU Fullerton was not in the cards as an equipment malfunction cost Kim and Siragusa three of the 10 minutes they were allotted during the Humanities/Behavioral/Interdisciplinary session. According to Jung, although the setback was too much to overcome, judges were impressed enough to approach the students afterward to further discuss their findings.

The Undergraduate Research Faculty Advisory Committee assists with the planning and organization of the Cal Poly Pomona Student Research, Scholarship & Creative Activities Conference (CPP Student RSCA Conference). The annual event provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to share their original research, scholarly and creative activities. All disciplines are represented.

At the CSU level, the competition showcases undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments. Students who compete in the CSU Student Research Competition can win first place awards of $500 for first place and $250 for second place recognition in their session.
