Professors latest research and recognitions

The job of a professor continues long after the last paper is graded. Networking with colleagues and researching the latest data are only a couple of the tasks going into providing the most current education.

Faculty with Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Business Administration have been hard at work outside of the classroom, particularly the International Business and Marketing Management Department.

Whether it was publishing an article or traveling to the other side of the world to present at a conference, every accomplishment listed below helps strengthen the CBA brand. Thank you and congratulations to each of the following:

Tarique Hossain
  • Best paper award from the 2018 American Real Estate Society (ARES) Manuscript Prize Competition –  $2,000  award sponsored by Pyhrr andBorn Trust for Real Estate Cycle Research] for the paper “Liquidity Imbalance in Residential Housing in Rising and Declining Markets” (S-2018-167) by Ekaterina Chernobai and Tarique Hossain, California State Polytechnic University Pomona.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Organized and hosted 2018 CBA BBRL Research Seminar and Biometric Sensors Research, May 14, 2018. The event drew 25 attendees including two faculty members from CSU Long Beach.
  • Elected as Treasurer, California Faculty Association.

 

Cindy Liu
  • Journal Article: Cao, Lanlan, Xin Liu and Wenbin Cao "The Effects of Search-related and Purchase-related Mobile App Additions on Retailers' Shareholder Wealth: The Roles of Firm Size, Product Category and Customer Segment". Journal of Retailing.
 Lin Ong
  • Lin presented at the Marketing and Public Policy conference (Columbus, OH) in June 2018, for her paper titled “Exploring Caste and Class Intersectionality in a Subsistence Marketplace: A Quantitative Approach.”   This paper is currently under review at the Journal of Marketing and Public Policy.  
  • Undergraduate student researcher Tania Gaxiola presented at the MPPC as well, with a poster on “Grief Related Consumer Vulnerability: The Case of Funeral Planning.” The poster was very well received and she obtained a lot of useful feedback from other faculty at the conference!
  • Tania conducted in-depth interviews of 20 individuals in the Southern California region (for about 60-90 minutes each) on their experiences planning a funeral and their experience with Federal Trade Commission regulations intended to protect grieving consumers.   Tania also received a Research Distinction from CPP’s Office of Undergraduate Research for her work.
  • A research group co-led by Lin looking at the antecedents of a scarcity mindset was accepted as a “Track 2” to the Transformative Consumer Research Conference at Florida State University in May 2019.
Suzanne Scholz
  • Awarded a SPICE grant for Classroom modernization.  The equipment requested will allow students to film and record their presentations so that they can become better speakers.
