CBA-Sponsored London Internship Awarded Program of the Year

Cal Poly Pomona's London Internship Program recieved the 2016 Program of the Year award for four-year colleges from the California Internship and Work Experience Association.

Management and human resources professor Jeanne Almaraz of the College of Business Adminstration accepted the award on behalf of the university on April 7 at the organization's annual conference in San Diego.

Sponsored by the College of Business Adminstration and open to all university majors, Cal Poly Pomona’s London Internship Program provides participants with a unique learning experience combining work, curriculum, and excursions.

Students are placed at small and medium organizations in both the for and non-profit sectors representing a wide range of industries and services, including hospitality, retail, business operations and management, cyber security, social services and even British Parliament offices. 

Working 20 hours per week, students sit side by side with executive leadership providing unparalleled access and inclusion.  The full-time coursework compares several aspects of American and British life and culture.

Students investigate the complexities and ambiguities hidden in the idea of culture, and consider the relationships between various aspects of past and present American and British cultural attitudes, institutions, and practices.

Site visits to varied London neighborhoods, museums, and historical points of interest immerse students in local culture and provide additional outlets to explore emerging technologies and social, political and economic developments.

Through this robust experience, students become global citizens, hone desirable 21st century skills and develop a keen self-awareness to cultivate meaningful future careers.
