Student Orientation
Cal Poly Pomona's Orientation Program
Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, Orientation will be conducted virtually in summer 2020. Please continue to check the Orientation Services website throughout the spring for updated information regarding orientation programming. Reservations for Orientation Advising and Registration dates will open on Friday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
Cal Poly Pomona’s (CPP) Orientation program is a great beginning for students to capture a glimpse of what college life is all about. CPP’s orientation program introduces future Broncos to academic pathways, advising, course enrollment, institutional services, and various on-campus resources in addition to other educational platforms.
Orientation is a mandatory enrollment requirement for all new students entering Cal Poly Pomona. The program is attended by First-Year Freshman and Transfer students, in addition to parents and family members.
Your orientation experience consists of three parts:
- Online Orientation
- The Online Orientation will be available for all students beginning June 1, 2020.
- You must complete the Online Orientation in order for your Orientation Registration hold to be removed.
- Orientation Advising and Registration with your academic department
- You must make a reservation for an Orientation Advising and Registration date via BroncoDirect.
- Reservations for Orientation Advising and Registration dates will be available from May 15 to June 8.
- Orientation Advising and registration dates for freshmen students take place in June and July.
- Orientation Advising and registration dates for transfer students take place in July and August.
- You must complete the Online Orientation Prior to your Advising and Registration date.
- You will attend a virtual advising session via Zoom with your academic department on the date you reserve.
- You will complete your course registration remotely via BroncoDirect.
- New freshman and transfer students will be able to register for their first term of classes at the orientation session that they attend. Students will be able to access BroncoDirect at designated periods during their orientation session. To ensure a trouble-free registration, new students are advised to submit documents required by the Office of Admissions & Enrollment Planning as early as possible before their scheduled orientation session.
- Virtual Engagement with Orientation Leaders, campus departments, and other new students
- Orientation Leaders will lead a variety of small-group Zoom sessions for you to meet other new students and learn about student life at Cal Poly Pomona.
- Orientation Leader small-group Zoom sessions will be offered in conjunction with the Advising and Registration date you reserve.
- Campus departments and student support services will host a number of webinars and Q&A sessions for you and your supporters to log in to and learn more about the resources that are important to you.
Parents, Families, and Guest
Orientation Services has developed an optional online program that provides a comprehensive introduction to our campus and student support services. This program is separate from the student orientation program and is designed specifically for parents, family members, and supporters.

College of Business Administration Orientation Advising and Registration
The College of Business Administration (CBA) is absolutely thrilled that you are joining our community. We are excited about the unique perspectives and experiences that you will bring to Cal Poly Pomona. The university is committed to preparing you to become successful and we are here to support you to ensure you achieve your goals. As a newly admitted student, we invite you to join us for a virtual college advising session. The scheduled program will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about your future community as you virtually meet and mingle with faculty, staff, current and incoming students.
To get you started on the right track, we ask that you complete the Orientation 2020: CBA Blackboard course prior to attending your scheduled orientation advising session. The course is designed to help you to get to know CBA’s learning community and introduce you to specific college resources. You will be able to familiarize yourself with your curriculum, department, and other advising resources on Blackboard. Be sure to keep tabs on your email for more information about your Orientation date and these links.

During your Virtual Advising Day at Orientation, you will meet with academic advisors and academic student assistants for fall 2020 course registration.
