Pre-Master's Programs

Program Description

The Pre-Master’s Programs are designed for local and international students to virtually take credit-bearing courses from their home in order to get prepared for admission to Cal Poly Pomona’s graduate programs. Upon the completion of the program, students can apply for the graduate programs at CPP through CAL STATE APPLY. Students have options to apply for graduate programs at other institutions as well. For more information of CPP's graduate program application process and requirements, please visit here.

These courses are primarily the prerequisites of the graduate programs at CPP. Some of the courses allow students to transfer the credits and count them towards the Master’s degree when the students are admitted to the graduate programs at CPP.

Pre-Master’s Programs are available in the following five academic majors:

  • Pre-MBA
  • Pre-Master of Science in Accountancy
  • Pre-Master of Science in Information Security
  • Pre-Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Transportation Engineering Option)
  • Pre-Master of Science in Computer Science

Program Features & Advantages

  • Clear all the prerequisite courses required by the graduate programs
  • Waiver of GRE/GMAT*
  • Course credits transferable to graduate studies**
  • Take Cal Poly Pomona’s credit-bearing courses without having to be formally admitted by the university
  • Registered as Cal Poly Pomona’s students to use the authorized online instruction functions and library resources, etc.
  • Get the official transcript of Cal Poly Pomona
  • Free mentorship on application for Cal Poly Pomona’s graduate programs
  • Application for graduate programs through formal application procedures
  • Admission to CPP’s graduate programs is not guaranteed

Admission Requirements for the Pre-Master's Programs

To be admitted into the pre-master’s programs, students must possess:

  • English Language Test Requirement (only for international students; either one of the below tests will satisfy)
    • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
      • Computer Test (CBT): 197
      • Paper Test (PBT): 527
      • Internet Test  (iBT): 71
    • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.0
    • Duolingo: 95
    • ITEP (International Test of English Proficiency): 3.7~3.8
    • CET-6 (College English Test): 425
    • TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): 640
    • or other equivalent English proficiency proof
  • GPA requirement: 2.5 or higher ***

*** Pre-Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Transportation Engineering Option) requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Program Tuition

  • $1,470/course
  • $100 application fee (one time)
