International Education Week 2019

Celebrate Global Understanding during International Education Week: November 12-22, 2019.

International Education Week (IEW) is a worldwide celebration of the millions of people who improve global understanding through exchange programs. This week of festivities honors our thousands of international students, scholars, faculty and staff—and the amazing richness and diversity of our campus. Here are some highlights of some of the upcoming events:

Opening Ceremony

There will be a kick off celebration on Tuesday, November 12th in the Engineering Meadow at 11:30am.  The International Center will be placing a large map of the world and is inviting students to place a flag on the map for every country that they have visited. There will be performances, give aways, and an opportunity to speak with several clubs. Plus sample delicious food from around the world!

Frederick Douglas Global Fellowship – Cape Town, South Africa 2020
Sponsored by CIEE

Are you a freshman or sophomore student and eligible for a Pell Grant? Then this program is for you! The Frederick Douglas Global Fellowship is going to Cape Town Summer 2020! 100% of a recipients’ program fees and travel costs are covered for an intensive 4-week, 3-credit summer study abroad program designed to enhance their leadership and intercultural skills. Frederick Douglass Global Fellows commit to sharing their experience and intercultural growth with peers and classmates.

The Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship is made possible through a partnership between CIEE and the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (Rutgers CMSI), in an effort to make study abroad accessible to students from Minority Serving Institutions (MSI).

MAINELAND Film Screening

MAINELAND tells a multi-layered coming-of-age tale, following this buoyant, fun-loving girl and introspective boy as they settle into a boarding school in blue-collar small-town rural Maine. They come seeking a Western-style education, escape from the dreaded Chinese college entrance exam, and the promise of a Hollywood-style U.S. high school experience. But as their fuzzy visions of the American dream slowly gain more clarity, their relationship to home takes on a surprising new aspect.

Let’s talk! We are bringing together, international students, study abroad alumni and CPP students together to for an open and honest conversation. We will be talking about topics like cultural shock, what is different about living in America then other countries, and what changes you want to see when it comes to traveling and exploring.

International Scholars Round Table

The International Scholar Roundtable is a forum where international visiting scholars from abroad share their research and expertise with the campus community. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

This Roundtable will feature a presentation by Ann-Kristin Erdmann-Burt who is currently a Visiting Professor from Germany teaching courses in Apparel, Merchandising and Management, Brand Marketing, Integrated Fashion Communication and Introduction to Fashion Retailing.

Study Abroad
A Student Experience

Our experienced team of Global Ambassadors will be coming out to share their Journey on their study abroad trips. There will be discussion about the different types of programs they went on, the lessons they leaned and the fears they overcame. Come see the presentation, panel, and stay for the small group discussion to ask any questions you have, to those who have been in your shoes.
