AutoCAD

Do you want a career in drafting or design?  Learn AutoCAD – Autodesk's industry-leading drafting and design software.  By combining "right-brain" attributes, such as creativity & spatial relationships, with "left-brain" traits, like mathematics & analytical thinking, you can create drawings and blueprints to construct products and structures, such as buildings, machinery, toys, microchips, plumbing & electrical systems, vehicles and a host of other manufactured goods. AutoCAD professionals hold a range of job titles, including engineer, drafter, estimator, designer, modeler, architect or illustrator.  The field is expected to grow from 13-17% in the next five years and salaries range from $43,000 to $64,000 per year.

CAD 100 is an elective for the Utility Planner and Construction Management Certificate Programs.  It can also be a stand-alone class for people who want to learn AutoCAD basics to increase their skills in the fields of engineering, architecture, interior design, manufacturing, and project management.

  1. Understand the power and precision of computer-aided modeling and drafting;
  2. Learn how to construct accurate 2D geometry as well as complex 3D shapes and surface objects;
  3. Learn how to create 2D representations of 3D objects as plan view, elevations and sections;
  4. Learn how to assemble these drawings in industry-standard plan form and produce plotted hard copies ready for distribution;
  5. Understand the concepts of architectural drafting with a focus on industry standards.

This is an elective in the Utility Planner Certificate Program. Others will receive a certificate of completion.
