Electric Utility Planner Certification Program

The need for Electric Utility Planners is estimated to increase by 20% in the next five years due to an anticipated increase in new construction projects and employee retirements.  If you have an interest in learning the basic knowledge and skills to pursue a career as an Electric Utility Planner then this program is for you. 

The program includes two (8-week) Core Classes and one (6-10 week) Elective Class.  Class meeting times are designed for working adults.  Interested applicants should possess a mechanical aptitude, be detail oriented, and have an interest in developing project management and customer service skills.

Core Classes include: introduction to electric utility planning; rules, rates and tariffs; basic electrical theory; customer service fundamentals; meter spotting; right-of-way; work order mapping; design construction concepts; introduction to transmission, distribution and the electrical grid.   Students must also complete one Elective Class in either project management, construction management or AutoCAD.
