CANCELED - Guest Speaker: Christine Butterworth-McDermott

Guest Speaker: Christine Butterworth-McDermott

Mar 12, 2020 4:00 PM to Mar 12, 2020 6:00 PM at BSC Ursa Minor

You are cordially invited to attend a reading of Dr. Christine Butterworth-McDermott's poetry. Poet, artist, and 19th century transatlantic scholar, Dr. Butterworth-McDermott is also the founder and co-editor of Gingerbread House, an online magazine.

She will read from her newest book of poems, Evelyn As. It tells the story of American model, showgirl, and actress Evelyn Nesbit, from a variety of focal points: "Evelyn As Persephone," "Evelyn As Cinderella," and many more. The poems construct a mythic biography of a tragic public figure and a narrative voice emerges who would have tried to save her.

Dr. Butterworth-McDermott will also read from an earlier book, Woods and Water, Wolves and Women.
