Lingua Franca Speakers
The EML speaker series
Lingua Franca Speakers, a public lecture series founded by the department in 2014, presents talks and readings by well-known and emerging authors and scholars.
We are a diverse department, with specialists in literature and linguistics (in several languages), as well as writing. The unifying theme of our disciplines is language. The term Lingua Franca, a common language, emphasizes the commonalities in our diversity.
Speakers in this series represent diversity in another regard as well: they address the multicultural and multilingual environment of Southern California—an area in which many languages coexist and interact.
