Dr. Robert Nyenhuis named visiting scholar at the Centre for Social Science Research

Dr. Renford Reese

This past summer, Dr. Robert Nyenhuis, a faculty member in our Political Science department had the opportunity to serve as a visiting scholar at the Centre for Social Science Research at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. While there, he presented two research talks. His first presentation centered on his research on populism in Latin America with an application to Africa, and formed part of a research panel titled, “Patrons, clients, brokers and populists: Research in South Africa and Latin America.” The second talk, titled “Politics and Business as (un)usual? The Electoral Performance of Businessmen Presidential Candidates in Africa and Latin America”, covered research he conducted this summer on Benin, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Zambia. Additionally, Professor Nyenhuis served as a discussant on a two-day conference about the 2016 Ghanaian elections. While there, he presented two research talks, making use of the rich Afrobarometer project data, hosted by the CSSR.

If anyone is interested in studying abroad in South Africa, Dr. Nyenhuis would be glad to assist.
