Spring 2019: Apply for special student programs and opportunities now

Spring 2019 planning is underway and students should be making arrangements to plan their course schedules.

Important Dates

October 17-18, 2018: Priority Registration
October 22-November 21, 2018: General Registration

Judicial Internship

The Judicial Internship program for Spring 2019 is now accepting applications. Students spend Monday and Wednesday mornings visiting and observing court sessions at the LA Superior Courthouse in Pomona and meeting with the judges and lawyers involved in the various courts, including civil, family, criminal, juvenile, etc.  The program's supervising judge also schedules visits (also Monday and Wednesday mornings) to Loyola Law School, a juvenile rehabilitation camp, a jail, a sheriff’s department, and a civil law firm.  Every other Friday morning, students will meet with Dr. Jill Hargis on campus to discuss the Internship's activities.

The application is due Tuesday, October 18 to the Political Science Department by 5pm, and students can find the application online at the homepage of the college.

Model OAS Team

Each year, universities from member nations gather for the national simulation at the OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The universities play the part of different member nations, introducing resolutions addressing different political, economic and social issues in the Western Hemisphere — much like the Model UN does with global issues. Each year's team will play the role of an assigned country. The students participating also take a specialized course class with Dr. Nyenhuis in Spring 2019 in preparation for the Model OAS event, researching which positions their country would take on issues before the general assembly. This year's team must be available to travel to Washington DC between March 30-April 5, 2019.

The application is due Thursday, November 1 to Dr. Robert Nyenhuis (renyenhuis@cpp.edu), and students can find the application online here.

Model UN Team

Each spring a delegation from Cal Poly Pomona participates in the national simulation in New York at the UN Building and at a nearby hotel. The delegation has participated in this simulation for over forty years, and has returned to Cal Poly bearing awards every year since 2000. As such, the program is well-renowned for promoting academic and professional excellence. Recently, the 2017-2018 Model UN Team earned a "Distinguished Delegation" award representing Poland.

The application is due Friday, October 26 to the CLASS Dean's Office by 12pm, and students can find the application online at the Model UN website
