Ashling Kelly '17 wins second place at CSU-wide Student Research Competition

Over the weekend, senior Ashling Kelly presented her senior thesis at the 32nd annual California State University Student Research Competition at Cal Poly San Luis Obpiso this past weekend. Ashling's thesis, "Do Fact Checks Matter? An Assessment on the Impact of Fact-Checking in “Post-Truth” Politics," examined the effects of fact checking in a unique survey experiment. In March, Ashling competed in the Cal Poly Pomona Student Research Conference where she was selected as one of two winners from our department (Daniel Raad '17), moving onto the system-wide competititon. Congratulations to our students and all their hard work!

The California State University Student Research Competition, initiated in 1985, features research achievements of undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent alumni from all academic disciplines.

Approximately 200 students from the 23 CSU campuses submit written papers and make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major corporations, foundations, public agencies, and universities in California. Cash prizes are awarded.
