CPELI Hosts Its Spring 2020 Graduation Online
May 21, 2020
On Friday, May 15 th , CPELI held its Spring B 2020 Graduation online.
This being CPELI’s first ever virtual graduation ceremony, the theme of the ceremony was appropriately titled “Zoom into Summer!”
The event had many highlights, including special guest speaker Dean Cheryl Wyrick’s warm message of congratulations to the graduates; CPELI Director Deborah Detzel’s inspirational message about the importance of international education and English learners in the new global reality under the pandemic; student awards presented by their respective CPELI teachers; a fun slideshow featuring unofficial CPELI mascot Mr. Sock Monkey and his Adventures at (a vacated) CPELI; and finally to bring the ceremony to a close, a touching performance of Coco’s Academy Awards Winning “Remember Me (Recuérdame)” performed by CPELI Operations & Student Services Coordinator Ainos Ting.
But perhaps, the most notable highlights were speeches of appreciation by students during the Open Mic portion of the event, as well as, the presence of family and friends of the graduates who were able to attend the online event from the comfort of their homes in their home countries.
In a time of global pandemic and social distancing, the graduation ceremony was true coming together of the CPELI family to celebrate its collective courage, resilience, and accomplishments. Congratulations to the 2020 Spring B graduates!
