Event Summary

This year’s theme emphasizes the need for everyone to be involved in security whether it be their smartphone on a wireless network or showcasing how hackers are targeting attacks through social engineering and foot printing. A new highlight for this year’s event was the Poster Symposium sponsored by the Los Angeles Chapter of ISACA showcasing. They have generously donated $1000 in cash prizes for this contest where 30 students participated in a peer to peer environment educating attendees in all areas of cyber security.
In addition, this year’s event truly had the best speaker lineup that we have had in our ten years. Jerry Craft from Nth Generation led two hands-on classes about the Pineapple Mark V with the assistance of the Cal Poly SWIFT club. This wireless device has been showcased at Black Hat and Defcon as a must have tool for hackers. The High Technology Crime Investigation Association held its monthly meeting within our event featuring presentations on social media and smart phone hacking. Cylance and London Security spoke about corporate and personal hacking by showcasing real world companies and individuals that they have assisted in evicting illicit hackers.
Finally, if you needed a break from security, we have partnered with the Career Center to bring two presentations to assist students in finding jobs with their technical skills. Barbara Jean Bruin from the Collins College covered proper dinner etiquette techniques and David Craig discussed skills needed for a successful interview.
