Glenn H. Nordlow

Mr. Nordlow is an architect with over 40 years experience responsible for the design of a wide range of award-winning projects both domestic and abroad. He approaches design with a commitment to innovation rooted in careful research, attention to context, human experience and the collaboration of clients, colleagues, and stakeholders. His background reflects a career long interest in urban design, community planning and sustainable environmental design. His architectural responsibilities include all aspects of the design process from concept through detailed design and construction, and he has played a key leadership role in marketing and the management of design.

He joined the Jerde Partnership to design the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. This award-winning effort pioneered an innovative approach to urban design and the co-creative design process. The Olympics, and Horton Plaza also completed in 1984, provided Jerde the platform for new urban projects throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Over a twenty-year period, he worked with developers such as Simon, Hahn, and Westfield to reinvent the urban experience in several U.S. cities. In Asia he worked in collaboration with architects and developers in Japan, South Korea and China where urban infill developments brought Jerde’s “Experiential Design and Placemaking” to host cities, Osaka, Tokyo, Nagoya, Pusan and Guangzhou.

In 2001 he joined Fields Devereaux Architects and Engineers (now HED) as Director of Design. California voters had overwhelmingly voted to fund new civic projects. FDAE had strategically teamed with the Jerde Partnership and other design firms to capture this work. He helped create a new design culture at FDAE with the capacity to compete against full-service design firms. Over the next six years FDAE developed design capabilities in multiple studios while winning significant new projects. Award winning projects such as the CSUN Sol Center and Bel Air Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, along with UCSB Graduate Housing, the Americana at Brand, California Regional Crime Lab and Saperstein Middle School helped establish FDAE as a leader in Educational, Civic and Mixed Use design and laid the groundwork for a successful merger with Harley Ellis in 2006. In 2007 he returned to Jerde to pursue opportunities in Asia and Europe.

During the recession in 2010 he joined Gensler to develop projects in their new Lifestyle Studio. As a “strategic hire” and Senior Project Designer he worked with developer Oliver McMillian on the ULI award- winning mixed-use Buckhead Atlanta. He worked on several Entertainment and Planning projects over the next few years with AEG, Live Nation, Five Point Communities, Disney, and the City of Anaheim. He joined the Gensler Shanghai office leading design and marketing efforts with developers Vanke and Wanda Group and his Avenue of Angels project with AEG was influential in bringing Shanghai based Greenland Group and the Metropolis project to Downtown Los Angeles.

Mr. Nordlow is a native Angeleno, father of three, and a lifelong resident of Los Angeles. He has a BS in Architecture from USC and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University. He is a Visiting Critic at local universities and enjoys mentoring young students as they enter the profession. He was a Founding Member and Past President of the St. Andrews Square Neighborhood Association, Hollywood Heritage Board Member, Wilshire / Koreatown Community Advisory Committee member, and Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission Consulting Architect.
