Fall Conference

Announcements

Land Acknowledgement
Cal Poly Pomona resides on the traditional home of the Tongva people. Convocation will begin with a land acknowledgment that recognizes and honors the Tongva people and their enduring relationship to their land. The acknowledgment will open with Sandy Kewanhaptewa-Dixon, professor and interim chair of the Department of Ethnic & Women’s Studies, and a member of the Hopi Tribe. She will introduce Julia Bogany, a tribal elder of the Gabrielino Tongva tribe, who will do the land acknowledgement. Bogany is a member of the Tongva Tribal Council, a cultural consultant, and a new elder/scholar-in-residence on campus.

Service Awards
This year’s Service Awards will be presented virtually to more than 200 faculty and staff at Cal Poly Pomona. A new website will recognize this year’s recipients and their dedication to the university, and no virtual events are scheduled. Visit the Fall Conference website on Monday, August 17 for details.

Support the Poly Pantry
This year’s Convocation will highlight how the Poly Pantry and the Broncos Care Basic Needs Program are supporting student success. Last year, the Poly Pantry served 1,218 students and distributed 43,000 perishable and non-perishable food items and hygiene supplies. We’re asking our Bronco community to support students’ basic needs through online donations. The Poly Pantry is developing a plan for curbside pickup, and details will be announced soon.

Two ways to help the Poly Pantry:

  1. Donate food, toiletries or supplies (microwavable meals, nutritious snacks, microwave-safe food storage containers) by purchasing an item on the pantry’s Amazon wish list.
  2. Make a gift online through Cal Poly Pomona’s Giving website.

The Power of Giving
