My financial circumstances have changed during 2020: I have not applied for Financial Aid

What might I be eligible for?

Re-evaluation of your financial aid eligibility is subject to federal, state and University regulations, and is based on:

  • availability of funds;
  • your demonstrated financial need;
  • timeliness of your original application for financial aid;
  • timeliness of your appeal; and
  • the nature of the change in circumstances that you report.
Consideration for the Federal Pell Grant and Loan programs is open all year by applying with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Unfortunately, the deadline has passed for the CPP Scholarship Fest and California Dreamer programs. We encourage you to consider submitting your FAFSA or California Dream Act application anyway as many scholarships require the evaluation of one of these agencies for consideration..

Ways to determine if you want to apply and submit an appeal:

To get an estimate of what you may qualify for there are two resources to use to preview any grant eligibility. Based on these estimates you can decide if you want to go through the application and appeal process.  First is the CPP’s Net Price Calculator and second is the simple eligibility estimator tool, Estimate Your Aid (FAFSA4caster). As a baseline, you can use your 2019 tax year or 2020 estimated annual income to fill in the form for income, your current asset information, and using CPP’s Estimated Total Cost (example of $25,415) for a cost of attendance amount. The estimator will return an estimate Federal Pell grant and Loan eligibility.

You’ve decided to apply. Apply for financial aid with one of these resources:

Apply for federal assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Step 2: Upon the Financial Aid Office’s acknowledgement that your application is received, then submit a Family Contribution Appeal with our online appeal process within the Financial Aid Student Forms site.

Monitor your email account for instructions and progress emails.

  • It can take three to four weeks for a determination to be made.
  • Submission of an appeal does not guarantee approval or eligibility change.
  • Cal Poly Pomona does not hold need-based aid in reserve for appeals.
  • An approved appeal does not guarantee awarding of a grant; in many cases an approved appeal will only result in loan eligibility.
