Aid by Career - Graduate Students

The California State University (CSU) is a leader in high-quality, accessible, student-focused higher education. With 23 campuses, almost 437,000 students, and 44,000 faculty and staff, we are the largest, the most diverse, and one of the most affordable university systems in the country.

As a CSU, Cal Poly Pomona makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, Cal Poly Pomona must reserve the right, even after initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester has begun. All Cal Poly Pomona listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by The Board of Trustees.

This section provides an estimate of the costs and fees for an academic year at Cal Poly Pomona. To determine your semester and annual tuition and mandatory fees visit the Tuition & Fees Page. In addition, the Net Price Calculator is a tool to help students estimate the portion of the cost of attendance covered by their financial aid and the portion they will be required to pay.

Grants

Grants are a type of Financial Aid that does not need to be paid back. The first step to applying for any financial aid is the completion of a financial aid application (FAFSA or CADAA). In order to receive any of the grants listed below, students must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress, have unmet need, and cannot owe a refund of state or federal grants or be in default on a student loan.

State University Grant: SUG (expand/collapse)

The State University Grant is a type of state grant. State grants are a type of financial aid provided by the State of California specifically for its residents attending school within the state of California. They require the completion of a financial aid application (CADAA or FAFSA) by the March 2 deadline.

To qualify for State University Grants you can not be receiving any other award designated to cover the State University Fee (tuition). For students who are initially awarded a SUG for fees and subsequently receive another fee-paying source including any type of tuition waiver, the SUG will be canceled.

Graduate Business Grant (expand/collapse)

Available to students in the following programs (Does not include programs offered through Extended University):

  • Master of Business Administration
  • Master of Science in Business Administration
  • Master of Science in Accountancy

The Graduate Business Grant assists eligible students in meeting the cost of the Graduate Professional Program Fee assessed by California State University professional business graduate programs. The per-unit fee ($270/unit) is charged for required courses taken by graduate students enrolled in fee-authorized State-Supported Professional Business Graduate Programs.

Award amounts are set at $1,610 per semester ($3,220 per academic year).  The award amount is based on enrollment in 6 units of coursework that are assessed the Graduate Professional Program (GPP) Fee. The award amount is not increased even if you enroll in more than 6 units of GPP Fee coursework; however, if your enrollment drops below 6 units of GPP Fee coursework, you will lose eligibility for the grant.

To be eligible for the Graduate Business Grant, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Have filed a financial aid application (FAFSA or CA DREAM Application) for the academic year by the March 2nd priority filing deadline
  • Meet standard financial aid eligibility criteria for all Federal and/or California State financial aid
  • Be a California resident for fee payment purposes
  • Have been assessed a Graduate Business Professional (GBP) Fee
  • Enroll in a minimum of 6 units of coursework (per semester) that are assessed the GBP Fee
  • Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA or DREAM Application that does not exceed the Grant eligibility cutoff

If you have a fee waiver or 3rd party payment that is covering the Graduate Professional Program Fee, you will not be eligible to receive the Grant.

A majority of scholarships are due by the May prior to the start of a new academic year (i.e. May 2019 for the 19/20 school year), but new scholarships are offered throughout the year.

Award amounts and unit requirements vary depending on donor specifications.

Capitalizing the interest will increase the amount of repayment. Future interest will be calculated on the higher loan amount.
