The Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) provides technical expertise, consulting assistance, and services to ensure compliance with legal requirements and provide faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the university with an environmentally safe place to work, study, and visit.

The responsibilities of EH&S are to:

• Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
• Avoid property losses or damage.
• Protect the environment by reducing adverse impacts.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety and environmental protection laws and regulations.

The department also covers programs that include:

• Environmental programs.
• Management of compliance with environmental regulations, including outdoor air quality, surface water quality and remediation.
• Hazardous waste.
• Protecting the health and safety of faculty, staff, students and visitors through safe handling, collection and disposal of hazardous chemical, biological, radioactive and universal waste.
• Laboratory and research.
• Promoting safe research endeavors in biosafety, controlled substances, chemical safety, radiation, and field safety.
• Environmental health.
• Responsibility for food permits, dining facility inspections, pool and spa inspection, and communicable diseases.
• Safety and industrial hygiene
• Identifying hazards and partnering with campus entities to prevent illness and injuries.
• Providing consultation, inspection, procedural assistance, training, and outreach services to the campus community.
• Supporting resources, learning, and guidance about health and safety responsibilities.
