Becoming an engineer has been one of Vilma E. Gonzalez’s biggest life goals – to do work that improves society and solve challenges. Currently employed as a materials engineering intern at The Lab Materials Testing in Rancho Cucamonga, Vilma received her bachelor’s in chemical engineering with a minor in materials engineering, and she is currently pursuing her master’s degree to work as a material researcher. She also plans to obtain her Ph.D. in the same field. “Any position that would put me in a laboratory to improve teamwork and hands-on skills would be the perfect job. My ideal career is to research new materials for medical products, possibly prosthetics or implant devices,” she says. She credits Dr. Vilupanur Ravi as a great supporter, helping to grow her overall love for learning. “With this generous award, I will have more time to focus on my studies without having to worry about finances. I am beyond thankful for this support and plan to represent my university proudly as a President’s Scholar,” she says.
