Alexia Limon’s graduate studies are focused on educating and demonstrating to people how language can empower their participation in their communities. Her experiences as a writing tutor in community college inspired a passion for teaching. As a first-generation college student, she graduated with honors from UC Riverside, where she participated in Kappa Kappa Gamma. She volunteered with the Reading is Fundamental program and her position as Vice President of Organization for Kappa Kappa Gamma allowed her to direct her chapter’s Leadership Day that brought governance and alumni together for discussion and workshops. At Cal Poly Pomona, she appreciates the faculty support in the English graduate program, which “has welcomed me into the community and consistently inspired me to develop skills through their words of encouragement and wisdom.” She is grateful that the scholarship support will assist her to become a stronger professional in her preparation for graduation and a career as an educator.
