Major: Sociology

College of Letters, Arts, and Social Studies

University Programs: Sociology department peer mentor, collaboration with Colorful Flags

Marianna Sidella’s interaction with professors and her peers helped her find passion in social work. Encouragement from Sociology professor Dr. Mary Danico provided advocacy skills to Marianna, a first-generation student. “What I like about my area of study is the sense of community. During the pandemic, students received so much support and encouragement that I am so proud to be part of this incredible family, composed also by students who are open to help each other. This sense of community will be definitely part of my future career,” she says. Marianna also works with David and Margaret Youth and Family Services, where she helps with their food bank and organizes events around local service days. Her goal is to earn her master’s degree in clinical social work to serve elderly populations or foster care youth. “Receiving this honor and scholarship means I can begin my internship, finish my education, and begin living the life of helping others” she says.
