Early Commencement Participation

Early Commencement Participation (ECP) is available to students that meet certain criteria and will not be completing their graduation requirements at the end of Spring Semester.   With the announcement from the President that the May 15, 16 and 17 commencement ceremonies have been postponed, the March 27 deadline to submit the ECP application and the notification of approval will be extended and the ECP application will remain open until a new timeline is established.  We will post updates to this site as more information about a future commencement experience becomes available. 

Information

Undergraduate students must meet the following requirements to qualify for ECP:

  1. , The student must have 6 or fewer semester units to complete after the end of Spring Semester.
    • Outstanding documents must be submitted before  applying for ECP, as it will impact eligibility. (e.g. outstanding transcripts from other institutions, course substitution petitions, grade forgiveness, etc).
  2. Be in good academic standing (2.0 in Major Core, CPP and Overall)

Students eligible to participate in ECP will not be recognized for Academic Honors at Commencement.

Students denied for ECP may request a second review.

Masters and Doctoral students must meet the following requirements to qualify for ECP:

    1. Completed all required classwork* AND have either successfully passed their comprehensive exam or successfully defended their project/thesis/dissertation as certified by the Graduate Director/Coordinator.
    2. Have 6 or fewer semester units remaining to complete after the end of Spring semester, if their program is without an oral defense or comprehensive examination requirement.
    3. The Graduate Director/Coordinator will certify that the student has completed the GWT (or the GRE if it is accepted as equivalent) requirement.

*Classwork consists of all required program units with the exception of the outstanding units associated with the respective project/thesis/dissertation.

Students that are denied ECP may request a second review.

Early Commencement Participation Fee

A $59 ECP (non-refundable) application fee will be applied to the student’s financial account at the end of the term only if eligible to participate. ECP does not include Graduation Application and fee.
