Subject: Updates: Summer 2020 Courses, Academic Policies and Virtual Instruction Resources

Dear Bronco,

Below are some important updates about Summer 2020 courses, academic policies and the petition process, and the resources you can continue to access during virtual instruction.

Summer 2020 Courses

All Cal Poly Pomona Summer 2020 courses will be offered through virtual modes of instruction in response to the public health mandates intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Summer 2020 registration for in-person courses is temporarily suspended while we determine which courses can be offered in a virtual format. Given the uncertainty of future health mandates, this shift is intended to ensure that you can continue to pursue your educational goals. We are making every effort to ensure that the courses you need to make progress toward graduation will be available.

Session dates and deadlines will remain the same. We will let you know when registration reopens. Check the Summer website for more information as it becomes available.

Academic Policies and Petitions

We know that you have had many questions about grading options, withdrawals and petition processing.

Specifically, we have heard questions about offering a credit/no credit option for all courses. We are working in consultation with the CSU Chancellor's Office and our academic senate to evaluate that option and determine the impact on students. We will communicate with you when we have updates.

Per university policy, at this point in the term students must submit a Petition to Withdraw for Serious and Compelling Reasons. Before submitting a withdrawal petition, you are encouraged to:

  • Consult with your instructor on ways to complete your course requirements.

  • Consult with your advisor on the impact on your time to degree.

  • Consult with the Bronco Advising Center or Financial Aid & Scholarships to understand the impact on your financial aid package.

The e-form is available on the Registrar's Office website.

The Registrar's Office is continuing to process academic petitions. If you are not graduating in spring 2020 or summer 2020, we are asking you to hold off on submitting petitions. Visit the Submitting Academic Petitions during Virtual Instruction webpage for more information.

Resources During Virtual Instruction

The Academic & Student Support Services page on the Health Alert website has the most up-to-date information on the resources available to you during virtual instruction. See below for quick links:

We are continuing to update the Health Alert website with the latest information related to Cal Poly Pomona's response to COVID-19 developments.

We understand that this situation has been overwhelming, but we are proud of you for making the best of it. Please know that your success is our priority and that we'll continue to find ways to support you during virtual instruction. Have a good and safe spring break.
