Subject: Additional Information for Students Regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Dear Students:

Following President Coley's message yesterday regarding a temporary pause of in-person classes starting on Friday, March 13, 2020, we would like to provide important additional information on the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation.

Temporary Pause of In-Person Instruction

Starting on Friday, March 13, 2020 through Tuesday, March 17, 2020, there will be a temporary pause of all in-person instruction at Cal Poly Pomona.

  • This applies to all undergraduate and graduate classes with an in-person mode of instruction, including lecture, seminar, laboratory, activity, supervisory, and independent study classes. It also applies to internship and service-learning classes that meet on campus.
  • Online classes will continue uninterrupted during this period.

Virtual Mode of Instruction

Starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020, classes will add a virtual means of communication along with digital content, as appropriate. This virtual mode of instruction will continue through Friday, March 27, 2020.

  • All instructors will be communicating with students using Blackboard.
  • Laboratory, activity, studio, performing arts, and physical education classes may continue in person, as normally planned to meet the learning objectives of the course.

Spring Break and Continuation of Spring Semester

  • Spring Break (March 28 through April 3) will proceed as currently scheduled.

Cancellation of Campus Events

  • The university is promoting social distancing by cancelling all events and gatherings with more than 100 participants through May 312020. As such, most events on campus have been cancelled. We appreciate your understanding of the changing nature of the situation.
  • Please refer to the Health Alert website for a list of event cancellations as they are added. ASI is also maintaining a list of their cancelled events online.

Cancellation of All Intercollegiate Athletics Activity

In consultation with the CCAA, Athletics has suspended, until further notice, all intercollegiate athletic activities, including in-person campus recruiting (on and off campus). This includes all NCAA Division II Winter championship teams. For more information, please continue to visit the official Athletics Website.

Information from University Housing Services

University Housing Services plans to remain open at this time, and the residential community and associated services are continuing normal operations. Please continue to visit the University Housing Services webpage for any updates, and residents should check their email for any communications sent directly through Housing Services.

Student Services, Offices, and Buildings Will Remain Open

Campus offices, buildings, and essential student services will continue to remain open, including dining facilities. This is consistent with social distancing practices.

Health Alert Website

Please frequently refer to the Health Alert website. This page will provide up-to-date information on travel restrictions, university events, and has a dedicated Student FAQ page that can offer guidance on a variety of questions, including student advising questions.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work together to continue to keep our campus community safe and healthy. Please send any further questions or concerns to the healthalert@cpp.edu email, or by calling the Health Alert hotline at (909) 869-2500 beginning tomorrow, March 13th.
