Subject: Cloth Face Coverings for Essential Employees

To the campus community:

Cal Poly Pomona will be implementing additional health and safety measures based upon a recent order issued by the Los Angeles County Health Department. Effective Thursday, April 16, all essential employees who are in contact with other employees or members of the public during the course of employment will be required to wear a material that covers the nose and mouth (i.e., cloth face coverings) to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

In compliance with this order, the university will provide a reusable cloth face covering to each essential employee who needs to come to the campus for work-related duties, as defined by their manager.

Please note that cloth face coverings are not considered medical-grade coverings. They are intended to reduce the spread of infectious particles when the user speaks, coughs, etc. They are also intended for multiple use and can be washed and reused. Guidance on the purpose, use, care and options for acceptable, reusable cloth face coverings such as bandanas, homemade face coverings, scarfs, etc., can be found on the County of Los Angeles Public Health website.

For those in need, the University Police Department will distribute cloth face coverings at the Parking Information Booth between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day beginning Wednesday, April 15 through Friday, April 24.

In order to receive your face covering, please follow this procedure:

  1. Drive up (don’t walk) to the Parking Information Booth located on Oak Ln, south of Parking Structure 1.
  2. Present your Bronco ID.
  3. A UPD staff member will record your ID# and provide a non-medical cloth face covering (limit one per person).

Student employees continuing to report to campus will also be provided a non-medical face covering. Please share this message with all student employees in your unit.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging and evolving situation. We are committed to supporting our employees, and we thank you for supporting the university’s mission.
