Dear Faculty and Staff:

Events are changing rapidly related to the COVID-19 outbreak.  This afternoon, California Governor Gavin Newsom held a press conference directing the home isolation of those 65 years or older and those with chronic health conditions.

Effective immediately, all Cal Poly Pomona employees who are age 65 or older are required to stay home from work.  Please contact Employee/Labor Relations (elr@cpp.edu) for further details if this directive applies to you.  We realize that this is a very concerning new development.  A remote working arrangement will be established allowing such individuals to remain productive and continue advancing the operations and mission of the university.  Others who are unable to work remotely will be placed on administrative leave with pay at their current rate and for their normal scheduled work hours.  Managers will be provided with a remote work agreement and guidelines to assist with putting these arrangements in place.

Additionally, the Governor ordered the home isolation of those with chronic health conditions. We do not yet have clarification about how that is defined and will seek details and send them as soon as possible. If you have been diagnosed with a chronic condition and feel that this home restriction applies to you, please do not report to work tomorrow and contact elr@cpp.edu.

All staff in either of these two categories impacted by the Governor’s directive will receive their salary and benefits if they currently have them, even if a remote working arrangement is not yet established

All other staff should report to work as previously instructed.  Faculty remain on a pause in instruction until Wednesday, March 18, when remote instruction will begin.  If employees are unable to report to work during this planning and preparation period, employees should follow normal attendance reporting procedures utilizing their available personal leave credits.

Since the COVID-19 virus is rapidly evolving, employees’ specific circumstances may make them eligible for other resources, so please continue to refer employee requests to elr@cpp.edu to ensure the University’s responses are appropriate.   Given the high volume of calls, please encourage employees with questions to call the hotline at: 909-869-2500 and staff in Employee and Labor Relations will respond to their questions as quickly as possible. Updated announcements and general information about the university’s response, is available on the Health Alert site (www.cpp.edu/healthalert).  There will be more communications and updates this week.

As this is a fast-developing situation, we will continue to keep you updated.  We appreciate your patience as the institution works to respond to an ever-changing set of circumstances.

Sincerely,
Danielle Manning
