Safer Return at Cal Poly Pomona

Paid Administrative Leave Related to COVID-19

Date: 3/21/2020
From: Division of Administrative Affairs
Subject: County and statewide orders regarding COVID-19

Protecting the health and safety of our campus community continues to be our highest priority. These are extremely challenging times, and I appreciate your continued patience and engagement as we address the care of our community and operation of our campus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To augment the practice of social distancing which is so critical to stemming the spread of coronavirus, the CSU Office of the Chancellor has approved up to 128 hours of paid administrative leave for health benefits-eligible employees, Unit 11 employees, and non-represented student assistants who are unable to work for reasons related to COVID-19. This policy goes into effect on Monday, March 23, through December 31, 2020, and the following conditions apply:

  • All hours must be used by close of business on December 31, 2020, at which time the remaining allotted hours will expire.
  • In consultation with the supervisor, the hours may be used at any time during the designated period, including intermittently or before or after the use of any accrued leave or other paid leave, provided that such use shall not adversely affect the delivery of essential university services.
  • The number of hours of paid administrative leave for employees who work less than full-time shall be prorated according to the percent of the appointment.

A full explanation of these new provisions and the circumstances of application can be found here HR2020-03 on the webpage for the Office of the Chancellor. Please note that the policy does not apply to:

  • Faculty, staff, or students age 65 or older or medically compromised. Per my previous message, those individuals must stay off campus and either arrange a Temporary Remote Work Agreement or be placed on paid administrative leave.
  • Auxiliary staff not employed by the state, which includes the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation and Associated Students, Inc. Decisions regarding these employees will have to be made by their respective employers.

We will communicate additional relevant details to managers as needed. Please direct any immediate questions to Employee and Labor Relations at elr@cpp.edu or 909-869-3729.

We are committed to continuing to support our employees during this uncertain time. Thank you for all you do in support of Cal Poly Pomona’s mission.
