Safer Return at Cal Poly Pomona

Spring 2021 Calendar

Date: 12/14/2020
From: Provost - Vice President for Academic Affairs
Subject: Spring 2021 Calendar

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to provide additional details related to spring semester as noted by President Coley in her message to the campus community last Friday.

As stated, the Spring 2021 semester will begin as scheduled and all calendar dates remain exactly the same. As a possible exception, we will finalize and announce our plans for Spring Break (March 27 to April 2) after consulting with the Academic Senate and Associated Students Inc.

As you know, the vast majority of Spring 2021 courses will be taught virtually. That said, a few classes underwent an extensive and rigorous review process to have very limited in-person instruction. Due to alarming increases in the daily number of positive coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County, we will delay the start of all in-person instructional activities until Monday, February 8, 2021. This applies to both on-campus and off-campus learning components. Therefore, classes with pre-approved in-person components must start the Spring 2021 semester virtually in January and cannot start in-person instruction until Monday, February 8, 2021. We will continue to reassess this situation and provide further updates as necessary. Because of the rapidly changing nature of the pandemic, these dates may need to be revised. Additional specific information will be sent to those faculty members who have approved in-person instructional components in Spring 2021, and we will communicate further to faculty with information and guidance from local public health authorities as the circumstances may require.

Thank you for your attention in this matter

Sincerely,

Sylvia A. Alva, Ph.D.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

[UPDATE: The university has further delayed the start of in-person instruction to March 1. This message was updated on Jan. 25.]
