Dear Campus Community,

As California faces an unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases, the state has implemented a Regional Stay Home Order, which went into effect on Monday, intended to curb further community transmission of the virus.

Cal Poly Pomona has already significantly restricted in-person instruction to very limited, pre-approved classes, and in-person campus operations to essential staff and services. Given the record increases in cases, we ask faculty and staff continue to work remotely and for students to seek virtual academic services and online engagement and support services.

Please take this opportunity to review these important updates and reminders about our campus operations:

  1. The Regional Stay Home Order instructs Californians to stay at home as much as possible, but schools are allowed to remain open with safety precautions. Only faculty and staff conducting critical and pre-approved work should come to campus. We recommend that students take advantage of virtual student services first, and only come to campus for critical in-person business (Student Health Center, Bookstore, etc.).
  2. For faculty and staff, pre-approval from your vice president is required before coming to campus. To limit the number of people coming to campus, on-campus work schedules may be adjusted, and managers will contact faculty and staff directly if changes are necessary. If you have questions, please discuss them with your HEERA manager.
  3. If you are approved to come to campus, follow the required steps outlined in the Safer Return checklist. All students, faculty and staff who come to campus need to complete the COVID-19 online training. Then, you should complete the online health screener before arriving on campus.
  4. Masks or cloth face coverings are required on campus. Face coverings, physical distancing and proper hand hygiene are the best protection against the coronavirus. There are very limited exemptions for cloth face coverings and you may email healthalert@cpp.edu with questions.
  5. Until further notice, access to campus property, grounds and facilities of Cal Poly Pomona is restricted to authorized persons only. Authorization for visitors to enter the campus, including any campus building or other structure on campus property, requires an essential need for physical access by designated on-duty employees, enrolled students, first responders, or designated entities performing contracted services.

Health and Safety Protocols & Additional Resources

This has been a year of stress, challenges and uncertainty. While we are hopeful for 2021, we appreciate your continued adherence to fundamental health and safety practices — washing hands, wearing a mask and physical distancing — as well as your efforts to making remote/virtual learning, teaching and working the best experience possible.

The Safer Return Task Force will continue to respond to health challenges and restrictions while planning for a time when the campus can begin repopulation efforts. As always, our plans will be guided by local and state public health guidelines that are designed to protect our communities.

As a Cal Poly Pomona community, we will continue to care for each other, celebrate our successes, and provide support and encouragement when times get tough. Thank you for steady commitment to our Safer Return to Cal Poly Pomona.
