Subject: Update on CSU Vaccination Interim Policy Compliance and Weekly Testing Requirement

Dear Colleagues,

As we near the end of 2021 and look forward to a new year, we want to recognize and thank you for your commitment to our community and for abiding by campus safety protocols. We’re proud to share that our campus vaccination rate is nearly 90 percent, far higher than the LA County and statewide rates of about 68 percent.

In January 2022, we will welcome thousands of students to campus as 77 percent of classes will be face-to-face or hybrid. Similarly, we are preparing for greater numbers of faculty and staff to physically come to campus. About half of our student body, and likely many of you, have not spent significant time on campus. In fact, many of our students, faculty and staff may never have stepped foot on campus before.

The transition to greater volume of in-person teaching, working, and learning will be a transition for each individual. As we prepare for this change and the continued uncertainties with the evolving pandemic, we want to reinforce the importance of adhering to the CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Interim Policy and other health and safety measures.

All state employees must take an action to be in compliance with the CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Interim Policy by either: 1) uploading their proof of vaccination record or 2) securing a medical or religious exemption. Any employee who has not provided proof of vaccination will be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing on campus. Faculty who are working 100 percent remotely may submit a self-attestation exemption from the CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Interim Policy, and the deadline to submit this document is Jan. 24, 2022.

The Office of Employee/Labor Relations and Office of Faculty Affairs will be contacting staff and faculty who are not in compliance with the CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Interim Policy, including the weekly testing requirement for employees who have not uploaded their proof of vaccination. Cal Poly Pomona will pursue corrective action measures up to and including termination from employment for non-compliance with the CSU COVID-19 Vaccination Interim Policy including required testing if applicable and any other campus required health and safety measures. These measures are necessary to support the health and safety of our campus and assure continuity of learning and student success.

Throughout the course of this pandemic, we’ve witnessed the many ways in which our campus is caring, resilient and dedicated to serving our students. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to be Safely Together.
